interests: Gastroenterology pathology,
cardiovascular pathology, uropathology, gynaecological pathology,
breast pathology and cytopathology
Dr Dimuth Gunawardane graduated with an MBBS from the North
Colombo Medical College, Sri Lanka, in 1996. Following one year of
internship, he commenced forensic pathology training in the
Department of Forensic Medicine at the University of Colombo and
the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, where he successfully completed
a Diploma in Legal Medicine and MSc in Forensic Medicine.
In 2003, he immigrated to Australia and undertook a PhD in
anatomical sciences at the Medical School, University of Adelaide,
South Australia. Following successful completion of his PhD in
2007, Dr Gunawardane commenced specialist training in anatomical
pathology at SA Pathology, gaining the fellowship of the RCPA in
2012. He has worked as a Consultant Pathologist at SA Pathology (at
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital) and Healthscope Pathology Adelaide
(Australian Clinical Labs), before joining Clinpath Laboratories in
2016. He also works as a Consultant at SA Pathology - Flinders
Medical Centre.
Dr Gunawardane has particular interests in gastroenterology
pathology, cardiovascular pathology, uropathology, gynaecological
pathology, breast pathology and cytopathology. He is a member of
the Australian Division of the International Academy of Pathology
and Australia and New Zealand Forensic Sciences Society (South
Australia Branch Inc).
