In 1999, Dr Lakshmi Nath graduated in India and
completed her post-doctorate study in clinical haematology in 2005
from Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. She became a Fellow
of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2008, after
training at Melbourne Pathology (Sonic Healthcare Limited), Peter
MacCallum Cancer Centre, Royal Melbourne Hospital and the
Australian Red Cross Blood Service (Melbourne). In 2008, Dr Nath
accepted a position as Consultant Haematologist for the Department
of Diagnostic Haematology at the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Her particular interest and experience in
transfusion medicine led to her appointment as Specialist
Consultant for Transfusion for Melbourne Health, responsible for
Royal Melbourne, Western, Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals. In
this capacity, Dr Nath continued her association with the ARCBS,
providing consultative support in both Victoria and Tasmania.
In 2009, she accepted the position as Director
of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine, Clinpath Laboratories.
During her time here, Dr Nath has set up the successful Massive
Transfusion protocol and 'CODE GREEN' in all the major private
hospitals in Adelaide. Dr Nath offers on-site advice and support
with massive transfusion and peri-operative management of blood
loss.
She has established the first private Flow
Cytometry laboratory at our Kent Town laboratory. Dr Nath has also
become an associate fellow of Royal Australasian College of Medical
Administrators, after completing her training in 2012.
Her areas of special interest include flow
cytometry, haemostasis, haemoglobinopathy and transfusion medicine.
Dr Nath is a member of the International Society of Laboratory
Haematology, Haematology Society of Australia & New Zealand
(HSANZ), the Australia & New Zealand Society of Blood
Transfusion (ANZSBT), and the Australasian Society of Thrombosis
& Haemostasis (ASTH).
Dr Nath is available for consultation in all
aspects of haematology, including the provision of bone marrow
biopsies.
